Tommy and his early trading

Recommended Posts

DAY 21

Markets traded: 60
Profit: +£0,16
Bank: £33,22

Commentary: Few small profits then bust and repeat, that was how it was and felt today. Also by looking at my betfair stats I do not understand how do they count profit and loss anymore. I am sure that I did check my balance against my last notes and it was all ok (before I started trading today), same stats as it should be but now betfair thinks that I have profit today quite a bit more than it actually is. Crazy stuff! What is happening here? Am I calculating it wrong? All bets are settled and it just does not match.

Hi Tommy,

Not sure about the calculations but you are showing a profit which is the main thing.

Remember to take regular breaks during your session - trading that amount of markets means you need to keep fresh. It's easy to say "I will just trade one more market" and you can end up losing money.

Hello Chris75,

good point about breaks. I usually trade without any. Only break is when I have to wait for liquidity to arrive into market. Trading over 40 markets per day is quite a challenge everytime but I feel good about myself even if there is not any significant profit from it. I feel good because I know that I gained priceless experience from all those markets and that pays in the future.

DAY 22

Markets traded: 30
Profit: +£1,46
Bank: £34,68

Commentary: Everything was going well, profits were coming my way then maybe it was because distratcion when I heard movement in vestibule when I got hit by -3,7 loss what I quickly reduced by another trade into "just"  around -2,1 loss. Then I tried my best and after few blank attempts I managed to get around +2,2 on another race, so I got it all back and continued like nothing happend. Last 5 races were scratches or no trade at all so I left markets with this nice profit.

DAY 23

Markets traded: 15
Profit: +£5,26
Bank: £39,94

Commentary: Checking back screenshot from betfair there is stll missing my last trade profit which was +£1,07. First 3 races were not taken seriously, literally, I had movie on background and I have been watching it during trading and that cost me what can be seen on my profit and loss statement. After that I felt like I should focus and even more than usual because I have big loss like motivation. I used to place sometimes stakes more than £3 ( my base stake ) which was few times even around stake of £9, so I decided to try set my stake to £10 and see if I am capable of trading with it. Yes I am.

Below is my profit and loss statement for today and one very nice quick profit using gaps on greyhound markets. I point arrows on positions where I had my stakes matched, so profit is shown next to that position.

DAY 24

Markets traded: 34 greyhound + 2 horse races
Profit: +£0,20
Bank: £40,14

Commentary: Today it was extremely difficult for me. I started with £3 stakes, then after big loss I decided to switch to £10. It was like rollercoeaster and at the end, I saw how I steadily lost quite a lot. £10 stakes was not a good idea today. My last loss on greyhound race was -£1,79 then I told myself, no, stop, this is too much pain already. I quickly look at horse racing markets, opened next horse race, traded a little pre-off with profit around +£0,30, then because I have little experience with in-play so I did trade also in-play and result from that race was profit +£1,98..second horse race, around +£0,45 pre-off, then after in-play trade, +£1,85. Both horse races pre-off and in-play were traded with £5 stakes. That was enough for me to scratch off that loss from greyhounds and leave markets. Tomorrow I am lowering my stakes for greyhounds back to £3.

DAY 25

Markets traded: 25
Profit: -£4,83
Bank: £35,31

Commentary: Same situation wiped me today like they did yesterday. It was extremely difficult for me I felt like I do not know anything about greyhound markets. Last race crushed me unbelievably hard with loss £2,9, that really shocked me, I could not believe what happend. I am going to take a break now and review my trading videos.

DAY 26

Markets traded: 2 horse races
Profit: +£0,72
Bank: £36,03

Commentary: Little fun here with horse races. Pre-off along with in-play on both races. During in-play I did not see what I wanted to see so almost no trade made during in-play.

DAY 27

Markets traded: 34
Profit: +£0,57
Bank: £36,60

Commentary: I did not try to push it hard today. My main focus today was on watching market behavior.

DAY 28

Markets traded: 14
Profit: +£2,04
Bank: £38,64

Commentary:  My initial goal for today was 1/2 of what I achieved. It was done quickly and that one big profit made on third last race felt great. On that particular race I traded big moves triggered by someone manipulating market.

It makes me really happy to see when you are making profit & progress! Btw, do you have any sort of advanced spreadsheet with stats? Something like I was using last year in my challenge?

It would be cool to see your equity as you are moving forward.

I have here spreadsheet made by one guy from other forum but I just need to figure out first how to add few things into it, then equity would be possible and I would also love to see that arrow pointing upwards.

Hello Ricardo,

It is very nice to hear from you and your success in greyhound trading. Profits what you earn per day are very nice. I am nowhere close to that amount yet but I am working on that 🙂

I do not know how stable is your internet connection but you can research information about using VPS ( do not mistake this with VPN ). You could try to find out if your connection would be good and with small ping if you connect to remote desktop located in the UK. Maybe you are familiar with software teamview..so that is similiar, just with remote server you have direct access to you paid server running operating system with geekstoy installed in it. If you think that may help then for betangel trading software there is VPS service provided by betangel company as well. Also Peter Webb is using this while traveling around the world so he can remotely trade with smaller ping. You ping is really high so better if you research about those things what I just mentioned. If you find good solution then I am more than happy to hear about it because it may be very helpful to me as well becuase I also have sometimes high ping above 100.

DAY 29

Markets traded: 23
Profit: +£0,04
Bank: £38,68

Commentary: I do not feel ready to trade today. I tried to trade but it was by forcing myself. I had small profit about +0,40 then had loss -0,47 so I had to little bit add up to get above 0 profit and here I am. Better not to trade today while I do not feel good.

DAY 30

Markets traded: 30
Profit: +£5,48
Bank: £44,16

Commentary: I felt good today, relaxed, everything was on its place. After first 7 races today I realized that I have no loss so far, I had an idea right then to try and make this to be extended to atleast few more races and preferably to have pure profitable day. I will not say more, just take a look at my profit and loss screenshots.

VPS won't help you with latency/ping if you have to manually submit your orders. Because the VPS is a machine located near the Betfair server, it will only help you if you run automated strategies on this machine. In other words, you can't beat the physical limit of distance from Asia to Europe. You will always be limited by the speed of light. You can only try to improve it by using optic fiber.

Yes that is why you can't improve the latency too much. But 250ms is still okay. When there were servers based in Australia and all of the Australian racing was traded on these servers, my ping was around 400ms and I was still able to make a long term profit.

DAY 31

Markets traded: 19
Profit: -£2,50
Bank: £41,66

Commentary: Another good day. Well, it was until I all in sudden heavily overstaked on one trade and lost 5,22 just like that. It was good that it slapped me this hard so I will be careful next time.
